Joyce Hinton is Co-Managing Director of the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC. In her current position, she oversees the many aspects of programming, marketing, and administration in addition to her co-leadership responsibilities. Joyce is inspired by the Chan Centre vision for programming, which, through advancement and presentation of exceptional performing arts and ideas, promotes artistic excellence, intercultural understanding and appreciation, enhances civil and sustainable society, fosters global citizenship, and contributes to an extraordinary learning environment.
Joyce completed a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre at Queen’s University (Kingston, ON) and the Arts and Cultural Management Program at Grant MacEwan University (Edmonton, AB). She has worked in the performing arts sector for over 25 years as a co-managing director, presenter, arts administrator, artist manager, agent, stage manager, tour coordinator and road manager. She served on the executive of the board of the BC Touring Council for six years and most recently as a board member of the Association of Cultural Executives. She has also served as a jury member for the Canada Council, National Arts Centre, Juno Awards, and Western Canadian Music Awards. In 2008, Joyce was awarded Presenter of the Year by the BC Touring Council.
