Getting to Los Angeles

By Plane
The Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is about 17 miles from the JW Marriott; please note it can take an hour or more to travel to and from the JW Marriott during heaver traffic hours.

By Train
Amtrak connects to Los Angeles by the Coast Starlight, Pacific Surfliner, Southwest Chief and Sunset Limited routes. Union Station in Los Angeles is located at 800 North Alameda Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012 and is 3 miles from the JW Marriott.

By Car

Transportation To & From LAX

**IMPORTANT NOTE: Traffic in Los Angeles is notoriously heavy. WAA does not recommends travel to/from LAX between 8:00 am and 10:00 am, 12:00 pm noon and 2:00 pm, and 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. If you must arrive and depart during this time, we recommend the SuperShuttle to guarantee yourself a fixed rate.

Taxis
Taxis can be found curbside on the Lower/Arrival Level islands at LAX in front of each terminal under the yellow sign indicating Taxis. Passengers will be presented with a ticket stating typical fares to major destinations. Only authorized taxis with an official seal issued by City of Los Angeles Department of Transportation on each vehicle are permitted in the airport.

Bus Service
Public bus service and light rail is scheduled and provided by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro). Visit the Metro website for its trip planner, specific routes, schedules and fares. Information on city bus services is on the Information Display Board in the baggage claim area in each terminal. In addition, passengers can obtain local transit information by calling 323-GO-METRO or 323-466-3876.

Also, check out the Flyaway Bus from LAX to Union Station ($9) and then catch a cab to the JW Marriott ($12).

Rental Cars
Approximately 40 rental car companies operate out of LAX, with vehicle rental sites located off the airport. A limited number have courtesy shuttles that pick-up and drop-off their customers at the airline terminals under the purple sign "Rental Car Shuttles" on the Lower/Arrivals Level islands outside baggage claim. Customers of other rental car companies can arrange for pick-up by contacting their company using free phones attached to the interactive Visitors Information Centers (VICs), located in baggage claim areas of each terminal. These customers will use the free LAX Shuttle Airline Connection Bus “Lot C,” on the Lower/Arrivals Level islands under the blue sign, to reach the Off-Airport Rental Car Terminal to meet their rental car courtesy shuttle.

Driving Directions to the JW Marriot

From LAX
Take the 105 East to the 110 North. Exit at 9th Street and turn right. Follow 9th Street to Flower Street and turn right again. Proceed to Olympic Boulevard and turn right. The hotel will be on the left.

From BUR
Travel southwest and turn onto West Empire Avenue. Travel 0.9 mile and turn left onto North Buena Vista Street. Travel 0.4 mile and take the third right onto North San Fernando Boulevard. Travel 0.5 mile and take the ramp on the left onto Interstate 5 South. Travel 9.5 miles to exit 137B for CA-110 South/Pasadena Freeway toward Los Angeles. Continue to follow CA-110 South for 3.8 miles to exit 22B for 8th Street toward 9th Street. Turn left onto West 8th Place. Continue onto West 9th Street/James M Wood Boulevard. Travel 0.1 mile and turn right onto Francisco Street. Travel 0.1 mile and turn right onto West Olympic Boulevard. The hotel will be on the left.

Climate and Dress

The temperature in Los Angeles in August can range from a low of 64 degrees to a high of 84 degrees on average. Make sure to pack your sunglasses!

Business casual attire is appropriate for all WAA activities. Please be reminded that the hotel temperatures can fluctuate so a light sweater or jacket might be appropriate.

Depending on your daily activities, comfortable walking shoes are suggested for activities near and around the JW Marriott property.
