Kevin Jones is an award-winning actor and director, the co-founder and principal of Plural Consulting, and the CEO and co-founder of The August Wilson Red Door Project, a non-profit that uses art to change the racial ecology. The Red Door has been the recipient of Portland Monthly’s best new nonprofit award, the Regional Arts and Culture Council’s Juice Award for innovation, and was recognized as the Organization of the Year by the City of Portland in 2017. In 2016, The Red Door began touring Hands Up: 7 Playwrights, 7 Testaments, a collection of monologues exploring black people’s experiences with racial profiling. Each performance is followed by facilitated conversations designed to evoke new thinking on this topic. Hands Up led the Red Door to a relationship with the Portland Police Bureau, which brought about the development of a new show called Cop Out: Beyond Black, White & Blue to continue this conversation.
