Western Arts Alliance (WAA) announces a call for applicants for a special showcase opportunity as part of the Black Arts @ WAA initiative at its 2019 Conference, to be held in Los Angeles, CA August 26-29, 2019.
We extend a special invitation to performing artists from the African diaspora, who self-identify as Black, to apply for one of four showcase slots in an evening performance at the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center. Performing artists from all traditional and contemporary art forms are encouraged to apply, including musicians, hip-hop artists, spoken word artists, dancers and performance groups. The WAA showcases will be held on the evening of Tuesday, August 27. The showcases will be attended by representatives of presenting organizations across the Western states and Canada, who come to the Conference to identify touring artists and acts they may wish to book in the future.
There is no fee to apply for the Black Arts @ WAA showcase opportunity. However, funding is not available for travel or accommodations. Artists (or their representative) that are selected to showcase are required to become a WAA member and purchase an exhibit booth at the Conference. Please note: LA-based artists can apply for a scholarship from the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs to cover Conference registration and attend under the DCA umbrella.
The deadline for showcase applications is June 21, 2019 at 5:00 pm PST. Notification of selected applications will be July 1, 2019. Click here for more information.
