Western Arts Alliance, in partnership with Western States Arts Federation (WESTAF), will receive a two year, $100,000 Performing Arts Discovery grant, a pilot program of the National Endowment for the Arts. The NEA describes the purpose of pilot program as follows: “...to help U.S. Regional Arts Organizations (RAOs) showcase regional performing arts groups, create an organized tour of performances, or present a combination of the two, in their respective regions.”
Western Arts Alliance will use the grant to promote an exchange between artists from the western states and arts presenters throughout the Pacific Rim. We will bring international presenters to participate in the Western Arts Alliance Annual Conference in 2015 and 2016; facilitate participation at performing arts festivals before and after the conference; take a delegation of U.S. artists and presenters on a four-city tour of China; and build relationships that open Pacific Rim markets to touring by U.S. artists.
For the Vancouver conference, the grant will support seven festival directors, programmers, and venue managers—two from Mexico, one each from Australia and New Zealand, and three from China. Read the 2015 delegate profiles here.
