CONTACT JONATHAN

Jonathan Campbell’s career is rooted in the decade (2000-2010) he spent in Beijing’s music scene as performer, promoter, producer, writer, and more. Since returning to Toronto, he has worked across the arts sector in programming, outreach, strategy, fundraising, communications, partnership, and export and professional development.

At Small World Music (2019-2024) he focused on sector-facing initiatives serving and showcasing equity-deserving populations: He helped create and lead SWM’s signature programs – the Incubator artist-development program, the Global Toronto conference, and the Going Global export project – while supporting public programming, outreach, fundraising, and partnership efforts.

His work has served organisations large and small including Toronto International Film Festival, Harbourfront Centre, Aga Khan Museum, Folk Alliance International, Folk Canada, and more. He produced the Nordic Connect Conference (2025), ran the Toronto branch of secret-concert producers Sofar Sounds (2014-2019), and was an APAP Leadership Fellow (2018-2020).

His writing has appeared across international media, in guidebooks, and in his 2012 book Red Rock: The Long Strange March of Chinese Rock & Roll.
