As part of the Arts Midwest + Western Arts Alliance 2020 Conference, WAA is extending a special invitation to US-based performing artists from the African diaspora, who self-identify as Black, to apply for one of six 15-minute showcase spots. The showcases will take place on the virtual platform, Pheedloop starting the first day of the Conference, Tuesday, October 6, 2020. Selected artists (or their representative) will receive a complimentary registration fee and the fee to showcase will be waived.

WAA welcomes performing artists from all aesthetics and art forms, including musicians, hip-hop artists, spoken word artists, dancers, and performance groups. Artists who have showcased with WAA or Arts Midwest in the last two years will not be considered. The Black Arts @ WAA Committee will prioritize showcases that explore the themes of social justice, change, and activism.

Application Requirements

  • Showcase performance video (up to 15 minutes) in the format of a YouTube or Vimeo link. (Due to limited time, we ask applicants to submit the showcase video that you plan to use for the conference. However, if you plan to do a live showcase, via Zoom, for example, we will coordinate with you directly to set it up on the Pheedloop platform.)

  •  A 150-word showcase description

  • A 100-word short bio

  • A 150-word description of your current work

Notification of selection:  Friday, September 25th

Please review the full program guidelines for more information on eligibility, best practices, and streaming platform compatibility.

You can learn more about the Conference on the AboutProgram, and Schedule pages.
