How do we build equitable international projects when travel is restricted and borders are closed? Amidst the pandemic, we are seeing emergent collaborative networks at the local, national, and regional level. 

Can we transcend borders and colonization by cultivating nodes between these networks through which we connect, create, and share?

Alicia Adams | Vice President, International Programming, The Kennedy Center

For over two decades, Alicia Adams has been presenting work from national and international arenas at the John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. As Vice President of International Programming and Dance, she produces the distinguished international theater series World Stages each year. Since 1997, Alicia has curated and produced major international festivals including most recently Artes de Cuba, an unprecedented festival in 2018 that brought together 400 Cuban and Cuban American artists. She also curates the Center’s Contemporary Dance programming and annual Lunar New Year Celebration.

Active in the performing arts community, Alicia has served on numerous boards and planning committees including the Williamstown Theater Festival in Massachusetts, the Caine Prize for African Writing (UK), Africa 95 (UK), the All Roads Project of National Geographic, the International Society of Performing Arts (ISPA) the Association of Performing Arts Presenters (APAP), the National Dance Panel of the New England Foundation on the Arts, the Advisory Council for Georgetown University's Laboratory for Global Performance and Circle World Arts. In 2011 she received the APAP Fan Taylor Distinguished Service Award for exemplary service to the field of presenting. She is also an elected member of the Cosmos Club. In 2013, Adams was awarded the Insignia of Member First Class of the Royal Order of the Polar Star by the Swedish government. In 2014 Adams was awarded Insignia of Knight, First Class, of the Order of the Lion of Finland by the Finnish government.

Fabiloa Pazmiño | Chief Academic Officer, Galapagos Music Conference

Fabiola Pazmiño is the Production Coordinator at the Teatro Nacional Sucre in Quito, Ecuador where she programs and produces concert series and festivals such as the renowned Ecuador Jazz.

She has headed the Ecuadorian production of operas and musicals such as La Flauta Mágica de los Andes and Les Miserables. She is a content programmer for Isla Viva Galapagos Music Conference, content advisor for Ecuador's International Music Industry Market MIIM, member of the Network of Latin American Women in Music SateliteLat, and part of the Association for the Development of the Independent Music Industry of Ibero-America ADIMI.

 
 

Austin Wang | CEO, Taipei Performing Arts Centre

Austin graduated from the University of Southern California with a Master of Fine Arts in Stage and Lighting Design. He has worked as Senior Production Manager and Stage Designer for Cloud Gate Dance Theatre, on works including Moon Water and Songs of the Wanderers and has worked stage and lighting designer and technical director for troupes including Performance Workshop, Ping-Fong Acting Troupe, Contemporary Legend Theatre, and Ming Hwa Yuan Arts & Cultural Group.

Selected honors and awards include: National Award of Arts presented by the National Culture and Arts Foundation (2014); Chief Stage Designer for the opening/closing ceremonies of Taipei Deaflympics (2009); jury member of Prague Quadrennial, and the convener of Taiwan team with the Taiwan Hall project winning the Gold Medal for Best Use of Technology (2007); and Belvedere International Achievement Award, presented at the Poland Presidential Palace in Warsaw (2004).

From 2016 to March 2021, Austin was the Director of Taipei Performing Arts Center, and is currently the center’s CEO.

Kuen-Yean Hwang | Senior Member - Ju Percussion

Kuen-Yean Hwang joined Ju Percussion in 1992, and is currently Senior Member of the group. He is also President of Taiwan Chapter of Percussive Arts Society (PAS), and an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Music at the Taipei National University of the Arts.

Kuen-Yean graduated from the Taipei National University of the Arts (TNUA) and received his MA degree in Percussion & Jazz Performance from the University of Southern California in 1998, and received his PhD in Percussion from TNUA in 2011.

Kuen-Yean studied percussion with professors Ju, Tzong-Ching, Kuo, Kwang-Yuan, and Erik Forrester. Besides being a great performer, Hwang has outstanding ability as an arranger and composer. In June, 1995, he was commissioned by the Japan Percussion Society to compose Formosa which premiered at the Japan Percussion Festival in 1995. Pacific Image, composed in 1998, was premiered by Seoul Percussion Group at the 1999 Taipei International Percussion Convention (TIPC).

Cindy Hwang | Founder & President, InPulse Creatives

InPulse Creatives, LLC was founded in Spring 2018 to help provide creative solutions for artists and creators who have an interest in developing and bringing their work into the Middle East and the Asia Pacific.

Cindy is an active participant in the performing arts community. She served for seven years as the Board of Directors for the Western Arts Alliance (WAA), with her last year as the Secretary/Treasurer. She currently sits on the Board of Directors and as well as the Planning and Program Committee of the International Society of Performing Arts (ISPA). Cindy also recently joined Orchestra US's Board of Directors and serves as the Board Treasurer.
