Hyphen+Asian Call for Contributors
Hyphen+Asian Pre-Conference Symposium: Advancing Asian American, Pacific Islander & Native Hawaiian Voices in the Performing Arts
We’re looking for contributors for our Hyphen+Asian Pre-Conference Symposium: Advancing Asian American, Pacific Islander & Native Hawaiian Voices in the Performing Arts, taking place in Seattle this September 4 - 5.
Are you a performing artist, cultural worker, producer, or performing arts professional who identifies as AAPINH? Do you have an experience or example, case study, or strategy to share about better serving AAPINH artists and audiences? We want to hear from you!
We’ll be selecting four - six contributors to share their perspectives (three - five minutes each) at the symposium’s opening night event, Hyphen+Asian: Open Forum on September 4 at 5:30pm. This is not a pitch session; the Hyphen+Asian: Open Forum aims to create a supportive space for community dialogue discussing the state of the arts in relation to AAPINH artists and communities.
Open Forum sharing may be in the form of a slide presentation, performance, dialogue with another colleague, or another format devised by the contributor.
Submissions will reviewed by WAA’s Hyphen+Asian Committee and will be selected based on contributions to the field and community and with consideration of representing a range of identities, positions, and roles in U.S. culture and the performing arts.
Submission deadline - extended: Wednesday, June 21.
Submissions not selected for Open Forum may be considered for future Hyphen+Asian events. Questions? Reach out to Ed Bourgeois.
Interested in other Hyphen+Asian opportunities? Check out our call for performers for the Hyphen+Asian Showcase taking place at the WAA Annual Conference in Seattle on September 5.
Hyphen+Asian (pronounced HyphenAsian) is WAA’s Asian Pacific Islander Native Hawaiian affinity group – a collective of AAPINH community members and allies with a shared interest in advancing AAPINH engagement, opportunity, intersectionality, equity, and programming in the performing arts across the West.
